O'Grady's father was Jim O'Grady. Her mother, Jan, was a financial planner. She was raised by her grandparents in Wheaton in Illinois and was graduated in 1981 with a diploma from the Wheaton North High School. Her appearances in commercials prior to making the move in Los Angeles in 1986. Career O'Grady began her career as the model of Montgomery Ward, and well performing commercials in a variety of ways. She began her career on screen in the romantic drama She's Having a Baby in 1988. She later played a recurring lead in ABC Drama China Beach alongside Dana Delany. Other guest appearances include programs for TV in independent film, as well as numerous other roles. Her first big role was as Donna Abandando on the ABC Police show NYPD Blue. O'Grady was the large-haired secretariat from 1993 to 1996 received Emmy Award nominees each year for Outstanding Drama Series Supporting Actress. The actress was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award in 1995 for her outstanding performance in an ensemble in a drama series.
